American Staffordshire Terrier

The "AmStaff" as he is often called should give
the impression of great strength for a medium size dog, a
very well-put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful,
keenly alive to his surroundings.  He should be stocky, not
long-legged or racy, in his outline.

With the banning of dog fights in 1900, breeders
endeavored to produce a more docile dog that would serve as
a trustworthy, friendly family pet.  They were successful.
The American Staffordshire Terrier has become a
very popular family dog and for good reasons.
 

They are amenable, and with a little training are even
tractable around other dogs.  They are intelligent, excellent
guardians, and protect their masters' property with an air
of authority that counts.  They easily discriminate between
strangers who mean well, and those who do not.
